Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
If you’re here tonight and you’re not Jewish then you are a Greek and as the bible calls it you are a Gentile, and if you have chosen to pick up your cross and follow Jesus Christ then you are grafted into the spiritual vine and qualify for all of the promises of God.
There’s a power that cannot be understood by the human mind. It’s a power that is able to create something out of nothing. It’s a power that is able to give life. It’s a power that is seen and unseen by the eyes of mankind. It’s a power that is rejected by the masses and is received by few. It’s a power that must be received by faith.
Psalms 139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
We cannot begin to understand this great power, how a God could love us so much that He would offer His Son as a payment for our sins.
A Transforming Power
God has a power that is able to take the vilest and wicked person and bring them to a broken state of repentance.
Repentance is a state of being to where you are brought to a point of understanding that you’re guilty of choosing wrong over what is right and you’re finally ready to submit yourself to the truth.
The truth that you are not living a life that is acceptable in the eye’s of a Holy God.
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Why is it your reasonable service? He died for you. Why not be just like the world? The world is hostile toward God. Why prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God?
If you claim to be a follower of Jesus Christ and walk in step with the world then you are a stumbling block to the nonbeliever. Jesus Christ has the power to transform your life and mind and to renew it. He is able to give you a new heart and replace your old hard heart.
The hard heart is full of unbelief and denial of the truth, and that hard heart will cause you to continue in your lifestyle that is in opposition to the ways of the Lord.
Psalms 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
If you choose to allow God’s transforming power to work in you’re life you will be changed.
Philippians 3:21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
Jesus Christ has the power to transform you and to new your mind.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
The guilt of the past and up to this very second can be erased and remembered no more.
Jeremiah 31:33-34 33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
God has the power to transform.
A Liberating Power
God has a liberating power. He is able to free those who are in bondage to addictions like pornography, alcohol and drug addiction. God has the power to set those who are in captivity free.
I was a slave to alcohol and drug addiction. I remember being high and still having drugs and worrying about where I was going to get more. My concern was my addiction and I wanted to not be sober. I wanted to escape the reality of life. I put off all responsibility and discretion.
My focus was on me only. I had a lot of hate inside and was in a deep depression.
I turned to the things of the occult and by reading and listening to these things I thought that it would bring power but it only dragged me down further into a deep black hole. This dark power that I was seeking only elevated me to a level of what I thought was a cure for my emptiness but it would only bring me down again.
One day I was at the end of my rope and there was nowhere to turn but to look up and I saw a light. The truth was in Jesus Christ the light was from Him and He was the one who set me free.
Psalms 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
God’s power is able to liberate you and break the chains of bondage.
A Guiding Power
God has a guiding power that is able to speak to your conscience and your spirit. It’s able to guide you through the temptations of life. When we choose a lifestyle that is in direct opposition to what the world says is right then we are choosing persecution from friends and family.
One of the biggest hurdles that I had was my friends, the crowd that I was hanging around. They had to be cut off because they were still addicted to that old lifestyle of drugs and alcohol.
If I was to be changed then all forms of ungodliness had to be cut off. God’s power is able guide you in your life. He is able to help sever these ties if we are in submission to Him. God is able to give you discretion between right and wrong.
People that you once were like minded with will be like minded no more. They will put you down and call you names and say that you’re a fanatic, but look what they did to Jesus.
Luke 21:17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.
The world is not going to like you shining your light and telling them the truth. You will be an enemy of the world.
Psalms 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
There were many times when I was faced with the temptation of returning to drugs or alcohol but he Lord has erased that addiction from me.
1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
God will guide us through all temptation, if we choose to continue in Him.
A Sustaining Power
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
God has the power that is able to support you through all of your trials and tribulations. He can provide you with the courage to stand against what is immoral and unjust. He can relieve you of any addiction that has kept you bound and set you free today. Jesus Christ has the power to forgive you of your sins. He has the power to give you rest. He has the power to give you a purpose in life. He has the power to give you direction. He has the power to clean up your life. He has the power to help you to have discipline. He has the power to give you peace. He has the power to restore your mind from alcohol and drug abuse or pornography. Jesus Christ has the power to transform, liberate, guide, and sustain you.
Jesus Christ has the power to accomplish all things.
The question is do you have the understanding to accept His power?
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Do you understand the truth that has been given to you?
John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
